There have been news reports circulating regarding a recent outbreak of Meningitis in Kent.
We understand this may be a concerning situation; however, we would like to reassure our patients that the advice from the UKHSA is that there is no baseline increased risk outside of the specific outbreak in Kent at this time, and currently there is no need for any additional actions.
The Meningitis B vaccine has been offered to babies as part of the routine schedule since 2015. We cannot offer this vaccine to patients other than those eligible as part of this schedule which includes babies aged 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 12 months of age- children remain eligible up until their 2nd birthday.
The Meningitis ACWY vaccine is available to all patients aged 14-25 years old age. The UKHSA are urging all patients within this age range to ensure they have had the vaccination. If you are unsure if you or your child has had it, please call the Surgery.
