Paying for your prescription

Prescription charges from 1st April 2023 are £9.65 per item.

If you have 3 or more items in 3 months or 11 or more items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC).

The certificate covers all your NHS prescriptions for a set price:

  • 3-month (PPC): £31.25
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • HRT prepayment certificate (PPC) £19.30

You can buy a PPC online, in person at some pharmacies or by calling 0300 330 1341.

Medication Reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
